Scott Brooks sees Blake Griffin as ‘great addition’ for Nets

Scott Brooks sees Blake Griffin as ‘great addition’ for Nets originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

After Blake Griffin was bought out by the Pistons and signed quickly with the Brooklyn Nets, many have wondered aloud how much he has left in the tank. He’s only played in 38 games the past two seasons combined and has shot just 35.8% from the field and 28.1% from three.

Wizards head coach Scott Brooks, however, believes Griffin will be a major help for the Nets, who are second in the Eastern Conference with James Harden currently playing like an MVP candidate.

“It’s gonna be a tremendous addition, asset,” Brooks said. “He’s high IQ, can play four or the five if they want to go small. His shooting has gotten really good where he’s going to knock down threes if his feet are set. He can pound the ball, rebound and push it in transition.”

Brooks added: “It gives them another ball-handling, play-making shot-maker. And his IQ; I’ve been around coaches who have coached him. They’ve always said that; his work ethic and IQ. That’s a great addition.”

The Wizards have beaten the Nets each time they have played them this season, but they have not seen them with Harden or Griffin. Sunday night will be the first time they have faced Harden since he was traded from the Houston Rockets.

Though Washington has had success against the Nets, Brooklyn is in a different echelon in the Eastern Conference, which put them in position to sign a player like Griffin. Often times, the top guys in the buyout market go to contenders.

Brooks wasn’t surprised the Nets were able to get him.

“When you’re really good, there’s going to be a handful of teams that are going to get opportunities that get bought out and [want to sign]. That’s a great pick-up. They’re going to be tough to beat. When you get [Kevin Durant] back, you’re gonna have four former or All-Star players,” Brooks said.
