Mychal Thompson wishes Lonzo Ball on Warriors; LaVar wants son traded

Klay’s dad wishes Lonzo was on Warriors; LaVar wants son traded originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Lonzo Ball is having the best season of his career.

The No. 2 overall pick from the 2017 draft is averaging 14.2 points, 5.5 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals through 37 games, while shooting 38.9 percent from deep on 7.7 attempts.

There is a chance that Ball — who is scheduled to be a restricted free agent this summer — gets traded by the New Orleans Pelicans before next week’s deadline.

“Lonzo can play,” Klay Thompson’s father, Mychal, said Thursday morning on ESPNLA’s “Mason & Ireland” show. “I wish he was on the Warriors passing the ball to Steph [Curry] and Klay.”

Shortly after Mychal made this comment, LaVar Ball joined the show and was asked if he wants his son to remain in New Orleans.

“No! No! He can’t stay in New Orleans,” LaVar declared. “Lonzo’s always been a playmaker. Why are you trying to change him into a defensive specialist that stays in the corner and shoots 3s? And you trying to change Zion [Williamson] and Brandon Ingram — who all through their careers have never been playmakers — now you want to put the ball in their hands.

“They gonna have a hard time trying to win every game if the playmaker ain’t making the right play.”

Does he think Lonzo will finish the season with the Pelicans?

“I don’t know what they’re gonna do. I hope he gets traded though,” LaVar said. “I don’t like watching him play like he’s playing.”

Well, well, well.

Remember, the Pelicans called the Warriors earlier this season asking about Kelly Oubre.

Golden State and New Orleans will play each other three times over the final two weeks of the season — May 3 and 4 at Smoothie King Center, and May 14 at Chase Center.
