The Miami Heat are trying to become the first No. 5 seed or below to win an NBA Championship since the sixth-seeded Rockets did it in 1995, but to get there the Heat will have to overcome an early hole against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers routed the Heat 118-96 in Game 1 on Wednesday, and Los Angeles aims to take a 2-0 lead in Game 2 on Friday night from the NBA Bubble in Orlando. If the Heat are to even the series, they will need standout NBA DFS efforts from players like Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro.
Are Butler and Herro prime NBA DFS picks for Game 2? Or should you build your NBA DFS lineups around players like Anthony Davis, who scored a game-high 34 points on Wednesday? With FanDuel hosting a $1M NBA Game 2 Final Shot and DraftKings running a $1.25M Finals Shootaround Special that awards $250K to the winner, there are some difficult decisions for NBA DFS players to make. He saw multiple huge cashes again early in the 2019-20 NBA season and got 2020 off to a blistering start with his optimal lineup returning at least 7x on DraftKings on three of the first five days of the new year. He’s returned 4x or more multiple times since that point. Anybody following him has seen huge returns.
In Game 1 of the NBA Finals, McClure identified Lakers forward LeBron James as one of his top picks. The result: James filled the stat sheet with 25 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists — putting up nearly 60 points on DraftKings.
Now he’s turned his attention to Friday’s single-game Lakers vs. Heat DFS slate. Head to SportsLine to see his optimal NBA DFS picks.
McClure’s top NBA DFS picks for Oct. 2
For Friday, we can tell you McClure is high on Lakers forward LeBron James. The three-time world champion is looking to wrap his hands around the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the fourth time with a third different team. James has already won NBA titles with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013 and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.
James was an NBA DFS force in Game 1, dropping a 25-point, 13-rebound, nine-assist night on the Heat en route to an 18-point victory. James has been strong throughout the 2020 NBA Playoffs, going for 26.6 points, 10.5 rebounds and 8.9 assists per game in 16 outings so far. For Los Angeles to take a 2-0 series lead, James will have to turn in another dominant performance on Friday, which means he should be locked in your NBA DFS lineups.
Part of McClure’s optimal NBA DFS strategy for Friday also includes rostering Heat forward Jimmy Butler. The nine-year veteran scored 23 points, dished five assists and grabbed two rebounds in 33 minutes of the Game 1 loss. Butler has provided the Heat with 20.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists in Miami’s 16-game playoff run.
Butler was stellar all season, both before and after the NBA bubble, scoring 19.9 points, grabbing 6.7 rebounds and dishing 6.0 assists to help lead the Heat to a No. 5 playoff seed. Butler was also dominant in two regular-season games against the Lakers, averaging 25 points, four rebounds and eight assists. And for the Heat to continue toward the Larry O’Brien Trophy, Butler will need to continue his strong NBA DFS pace.
How to set your NBA DFS lineups for Oct. 2
