NBA Releases Schedule For Restart In Orlando
LeBron James’s team just gained a new young star. Klutch Sports Group, the agency group that is run by a longtime friend of LeBron and represents LeBron and other players who are current or former teammates of LeBron’s, signed Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young to its client list.
Young’s move to Klutch comes at the expense of sports and entertainment agency group Octagon, which the 21-year-old had been with since joining the league. The player made the announcement on Instagram and Twitter.
As Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports notes, Rich Paul’s agency was a strong favorite to land the All-Star, especially after longtime agent Omar Wilkes, who has been with Young since 2018, left Octagon become the head of basketball operations at Klutch Sports. Paul will reportedly now focus more of his attention on CEO-related duties for his company.
After a stellar rookie year, Young continued to blossom in the 2019-20 season as the Hawks’ point guard. He was selected as a starter for the Eastern Conference in this year’s All-Star Game and was averaging 29.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 9.3 assists before the NBA’s season was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic back in March.
It would be reckless to speculate what this means for Young’s future, but given the nihilistic tendencies of Atlanta sports fans, it’s very likely that the worst-case scenario — Young leaving the Hawks to play with LeBron out west — has been played out enough in all of their heads that they’ve grown to accept that hypothetical as inevitable.
