Klay Thompson ditched traveling party to support Juan Toscano-Anderson

Klay Thompson has yet to play in the same NBA game as Juan Toscano-Anderson, but when it came time to support his fellow teammate, there was no hesitation.

Toscano-Anderson, of course, helped organize a peaceful protest around Lake Merritt in Oakland last week, and several members of the Warriors joined him in supporting the cause of fighting systemic racism. Thompson was among them, but only after completing a rapid round trip.

“The plane landed at some destination on the West Coast where Klay Thompson and a bunch of people had planned to convene,” The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson wrote Tuesday. “Thompson stepped off the private jet and got his traveling party all situated according to plan. And once everyone was straight, he left them. He went back to the plane and flew to Oakland.

“So he could march with Juan Toscano-Anderson on Thursday in Oakland.”

The leadership displayed by Toscano-Anderson, a 27-year-old rookie and Bay Area native, was incredibly admirable and rightfully lauded by his teammates and members of the Warriors organization. Similarly impressive was the way in which those teammates — including Thompson, Steph Curry, Damion Lee and Marquese Chriss — flocked to support him, for which he expressed his gratitude.

The Warriors have plenty of things to improve upon heading into next season. Team unity, however, doesn’t appear to be one of them.
